The fruit it bore took the shape of human faces, with red eyes, razor-sharp teeth, which chilled laughter or hideous screams whenever someone approached. The "fruits" only died when the tree itself was dead. Jinmenju were seen in the Shadowlands, in the darker parts of the Shinomen Forest, the Mori Kuroi, as well as other tainted groves such as the Forest of Dreamers. It was said that Jinmenju were peach trees that had grown in blood-soaked or Tainted ground.
