abstract
  • "Atamras" is a reference to the state of bliss obtained when ones mind is connected with the Will (or hukam) of the Lord. The word consists of two roots: "Atam" and "ras". The root "Atam" is a reference to "Atama" or "soul" and "Ras" means 'sensation' or 'nectar' or 'juice'. Together the two roots combine and give the meaning of the word as the 'sensation of the soul' or the 'blissful state of the soul'. This word is also commonly used to refer to the style of kirtan where a collection of several groups (or jathas) of ragis (kirtan singers) sing as an enlarge group, hymns {kirtan} from the Sikh scriptures, predominately from the Guru Granth Sahib.
