- Splinter, is a mutant rat and an important character in each incarnation of the TMNT franchise, as the teacher, martial arts instructor, and foster father of the Ninja Turtles. In some incarnations, he is a mutated or reincarnated Hamato Yoshi; in others, he was Yoshi's pet rat who is sometimes known as Hamato Splinter.

- Splinter is a mutant rat in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. The pet rat of ninja Hamato Yoshi, Splinter learned many aspects of martial arts as well as Japanese philosophy from his master. After Yoshi is murdered by the Shredder, the rat retreats to the sewers, where he's mutated by a toxic substance or "ooze."

- Splinters are common, insectoid creatures that Samus encounters on Aether in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Found only in the Temple Grounds, they live in Splinter Cocoons most of the time, and come out of them to hunt and forage. If a being approaches their cocoons, the Splinters within will awaken and go into a state of blood frenzy, rousing other Splinters nearby. This can prove them to be hazardous if the being is traveling alone and unarmed.
