He also was on Canada's team at the 1977 World Junior Championship. The Colorado Rockies selected him 126th overall in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. In 1977-78 he was able to score 12 goals in just 37 games with the Rockies, but his total dipped to just five the next season.

Contini signed as a free agent with the Minnesota North Stars in 1980, but only played one game for that team. He retired in 1982 after spending time in the minors.
