The Brock Township Fire Department protects a predominantly rural township of 12,000 people located in the northern part of Durham Region. The fire department has a full-time chief, full-time fire prevention officer and 71 part-time/volunteer firefighters. The department was formed in 1973 with the amalgamation of the villages of Beaverton and Cannington with the original Township of Brock and the Township of Thorah. Fire departments merged were the Beaverton Fire Department, Cannington Fire Department and the original Brock Township Fire Department in Sunderland.
