| - Checkmate Transport was an independent transport operator, situated in Mossley, Greater Manchester that traded for exactly 30 years since 1986 until the companies closure in 2016. At the time of closure, they owned 4 buses, mainly Optare Solo's with a Plaxton Beaver used for a school route and as a spare for public services, and along with the school service they operated a mix of tendered services and one commercial service. Checkmate Transport has a history in Tameside. Originally the operator name in legal terms was S. M. Tandy of Mossley, trading as Checkmate mini Coaches. The 'Tandy' name was used as well as the Checkmate name in the first years of trading. They recently reappeared several years ago, having spent a number of years with a very limited amount of services. Running a small number of services in Oldham and Tameside, using Plaxton Beavers and an Optare Metrorider, before expanding into other areas in Tameside. They also operated the DS1 and DS2 shuttle buses in Saddleworth, linking Uppermill and Greenfield with Dovestones Reservoir in the summer of 2010 before the services were scrapped in spring 2011. In the summer of 2011 a new DS1 service was introduced, which was operated by First Greater Manchester. The very first vehicle that S. M. Tandy owned in 1986 was a memorable looking one and was a hit with the passengers, it was a Deansgate-bodied Bedford CF. This was used regularly on the now long withdrawn 352 service, one of Checkmate's signature services from 1986 until Glossopdale transport took over the running in 1996. The 418 service Lees circular was another popular service that had a Monday-Saturday daytime frequency of an hour. Checkmate ran this service from 1998 until 2014. The company ceased trading in 2016.
