Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a 352-page novelization of the film of the same name that was written by Greg Cox and released on by Pocket Star. The novelization mainly follows the film while providing additional details. The prologue of the novelization describes how William Corvinus became the first Werewolf: William and his brother Marcus were riding in the forest at night when a wolf attacked Marcus. William was able to strike the wolf before it bit Marcus, but the wolf then bit William. William nearly died that night, only to take the form of a Werewolf during his recovery. How Marcus later became a Vampire is not described.

William was able to strike the wolf before it bit Marcus, but the wolf then bit William. William nearly died that night, only to take the form of a Werewolf during his recovery. How Marcus later became a Vampire is not described. In a scene described only in the novelization, Janosh was fed to the Lycans after being killed by Viktor. After taking a rib of some fresh, unidentified meat, Lucian recognized it as human flesh. He decided to proceed with eating it because it was not the first time that he had tasted human flesh: the Vampires had forced him to turn many of his fellow Lycans by biting them while they were still mortal. Another extra scene in the novelization explains how Sonja entered the castle dungeon to visit Lucian after his whipping: Sonja sent Luka and Malvina down to the dungeon first. They propositioned the two dungeon guards and drew them into a side room. While the guards were distracted, Sonja was free to visit Lucian unobserved by any Vampires.
