  • The Tweede Divisie (Second Division) is the only semi-professional (and historically the lowest professional) football league in the Netherlands. It was established in 1956, together with the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie. Between 1956 and 1960 and between 1962 and 1966, the league consisted of two divisions, Tweede Divisie A and Tweede Divisie B. The league was disbanded in 1971. Six clubs were promoted to the Eerste Divisie (De Volewijckers, FC Eindhoven, FC VVV, Fortuna Vlaardingen, PEC and Roda JC), while the other eleven teams became amateur clubs.
  • The Tweede Divisie is the third level of ice hockey in the Netherlands, below the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie. The first third-level competition was contested as the 3de Klasse in 1947-48 and was held until 1949-50. It was also known as the Competitie Afdeling AA in 1948-49. The third tier of Dutch hockey was also (from 1967 to 1991) known as the 3e Divisie. It was then referred to as the Reserve Divisie from 1991 to 1993. The competition later became known as the 2e Divisie in 1993-94.

Plans for a new, semi-professional Tweede Divisie, to be made up of 4 reserve teams and 14 Topklasse clubs, starting in season 2016–17 were approved in a KNVB assembly in December 2014. Thus, the Topklasse, renamed the Derde Divisie (Third Division), and leagues below decremented by one level, and furthermore, promotion and relegation among the second to fourth divisions are mandatory.
