IDYB or INDIAN DEFENCE YEAR BOOK is an annual defence journal, published on 1 January each year. Since then, IDYB has grown into India’s most respected and widely circulated defence yearly journal. The Yearbook is edited by Maj Gen RK Arora. One half of the Yearbook is devoted to analyses of defence issues and the other to equipment. It carries information related to defence expenditure, defence technology developments, current conflicts and market intelligence. IDYB covers subjects such as weapon systems introduction, defence research and specific information on Indian paramilitary organisations and coast guard. IDYB contains details of equipment in use and under development in the armed forces – land systems, aeronautical systems, naval, communications, vehicles and logistics, IDYB also has useful information about the defence budget, modernization plans of the three Services, paramilitary forces and the second line of defence. It also assesses the annual performance of the eight defence PSUs. One can find articles on efforts being made towards indigenisation and simplification of procedures for better defence-industry partnership. IDYB’s reach extends to Government official dealing with defence, armed forces personnel, defence industry, research establishments and production units. Of particular relevance is the inclusion of details of modernization of the BSF, Territorial Army, Assam Rifles, CISF, Rashtriya Rifles, Into-Tibetan Border Police, Coast Guard and other forces.
