- Doji Tanie was a samurai-ko and member of the Imperial Court. She joined the Four Temples as the nun Awa. Soon after, she returned to court to act the next twelve years as advisor to her daughter Doji Taniyo, who had taken up her duties at the Imperial Court. Awa negotiated a grant of land near the village of Tsuma and financial support to a new monastic order, allied with but separate from the Four Temples, which subsequently grew into the Autumn Leaf Temple.

Awa was not her birth name, but rather a title meaning Mother, bestowed upon her by her followers. The world of her birth was also named in honor of her, as Kandawa was roughly translated to mean "Realm of the Mother". Awa ruled as Kandar for over 1,000 years until her passing, upon which she was apotheosized into the chief goddess of the Seven Saviors.
