| - by user False Prophet Sen. Norm Coleman, (R) Minnesota, was absent from the vote on the Iraq funding bill a few weeks back. The reason? His dad was at the Mayo Clinic and was extremely ill. Good excuse, right? No. You see, no one knew about that untill a couple of days ago. That cannot happen for something as important as the Iraq spending bill that could have set a time table for withdrawl from Iraq. As a senator, you have people working for you that's sole purpose is to tell the media minnute by minnute what your day will involve. There are about a million ways that he could have handled this better and still voted. First, he could have had his pages take notes at the discussions, and fed ex them to him at the mayo clinic. I'm sure that they have enough money to do that, especially considering that type of thing is done all day, and is why fed ex exists, Then, when it comes time to vote, Norm could have hopped on a jet, arrived at Washington in about 2 hours, vote, and then hop on a plane and be back for a total of maybe 6 hours. How hard would that have been? Or, he could have signed a proxy for someone that's job it is to act for him when he's not in the office. Any smart executive or poltical figure will have someone like that. Why? Because it allows for them to do work out of the office while things at the office still get done. This is unacceptable that Norm expects us to stand behind him when he doesn't vote for the most important bill since the decision to go to war with Iraq. How hard would it have been to do either of those actions? I mean, I high schooler figured it out in a couple of hours, you'd think a Senator could have something like this ready to go, no? Isn't that what an emergency plan is for? You know, an emergency, when you can't vote for something that's impact could be seen for years to come? And why didn't he come out with this untill now? Why, when all the political wonks were asking where Norm was, did no one from his office come out and say something? Why wait until weeks have passed before explaining why he was gone? It just doesn't make sense. __NOEDITSECTION__ From The Opinion Wiki, a Wikia wiki. From The Opinion Wiki, a Wikia wiki.
