Bronchodilators describe naturally produced substances in the body or pharmaceuticals that dilate the bronchial tubes in the lungs, allowing for the easier flow of air. The pharmaceuticals are most commonly used to treat asthma and COPD, but can be used for other lung and breathing conditions. They can either be fast acting with short duration or slow acting with long duration. The most commonly used are beta-adrenoceptor antagonists, but anticholinergics are also used.
