Dargon Nadrix was a scout for the Galactic Republic, the succeeding Galactic Empire, and then the New Republic. Under the Republic, he received his training and early experience, and had taken part in the discovery of several systems, planets, and previously unknown species. After the New Order was established in 19 BBY, with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine declaring himself Galactic Emperor, Nadrix continued to serve, in the newly formed Imperial Survey Corps. Under the Empire, Nadrix initially saw little difference, as much of the galaxy was war-torn from the the carnage of the Clone Wars. However, as the Empire became more authoritarian, and the Humanocentric policies became more evident, the Mustafarian scout began having second thoughts about discovering new worlds for the Empire. In the several years before the beginning of the Galactic Civil War, Nadrix became disillusioned, though unlike many of his comrades from his years as a Republic scout, he remained in the Imperial Survey Corps, rather than become independent. Nadrix continued serving the Survey Corps until around 1 BBY, when the Alliance to Restore the Republic was formed and fully functioning, rising to prominence in the galactic spotlight. As he was already growing tired of the Empire's bureaucratic and Humanocentrist policies, and heard of the various atrocities that the Palpatine regime committed, the Mustafarian decided to defect to the Rebels. It was not difficult to do, since the Empire did not care very much for the Survey Corps, and the organization itself was largely ignored by the Imperial bureaucracy. After arriving at a Rebel recruitment office, Nadrix was accepted into the Alliance, and was made a transport pilot in the Alliance Fleet. After the war with the Empire climaxed at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, with the deaths of the Emperor and the Darth Vader, Nadrix was promoted to the rank of commander in the newly established New Republic Scout Service, which itself was created after the New Republic was declared. For the first few months, the NRSS's only personnel were Nadrix and his small crew, about his personal scout vessel. His ship was a scout vessel called the Endeavor.
