  • "Mages" is the generic catch-all term for humans capable of extraordinary feats, through the mastery of "spheres" of magic or science. The name is not universally used; the Technocratic Union classifies them as "Enlightened Scientists", and aims to codify their powers in terms of advanced science, while most other groups see themselves as practitioners of magic. Regardless of their view on the matter, the different factions do agree that their members do essentially the same thing - the difference in opinion is on what that is. The various factions of mages tend to be fiercely opposed to one another. The Technocratic Union and The Traditions champion the two opposing views above, and have been in various states of open or cold warfare for centuries, currently in the colder stages. Both are hostile to the destructive Nephandi and the metaphysically insane Marauders. Various smaller groups exist which tend to clash with the major factions.
  • The Mages are a group from The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. They appear in various levels throughout the game, providing helpful advice. They are similar in appearance to the Fortune Teller from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Vaati is sometimes referred to as a "Wind Mage". Mages appear most frequently in the Village of the Blue Maiden. They are pleased that Vaati has been released, and praise Link for unknowingly freeing him. The Seeker's Guild suspect that the Mages are to blame for the disappearance of the children in the village and investigate them. They find that the Mages are innocent of the childrens' disappearance, but knew something about the disappearances of the Seven Maidens. Despite the fact that the Mages are followers of Vaati, they aid Link many times throughout his quest. One Mage gives Link a Moon Pearl needed to open a Moon Gate. Another gives him the Magic Book to give to another Mage, Iris. One Mage states that magic users such as herself created the Bombos and Quake Medallions, and allows Link to use a Quake Medallion she enchanted. She also claims that the Medallions were made to ward off evil, which is contradictory to the Mages' alignment with Vaati.

There are several kinds of mages, for example seers. Evil mages are known to enhance their own powers with the pain of victims that they torture and kill. After Rwn's destruction the mages on Mithgar were trapped, since the only known in-between . They withdrew into the Black Mountain, where they wanted to until the Time of the Trine would come. Thus, mages were rarely seen on Mithgar for millennia, although they would become involved when large enough crises arose, such as the War of the Ban. Upon Aravan and Bair's discovery of another entry to Vadaria, this one located in Neddra, and the severing of the blood-based restrictions on plane travel, Mages were once more able to visit Mithgar.
