It was originally a piece without lyrics, though the name has always been Oh, Vanuku!. The intention of van Amsteren was to make the patriot inside every Vanukuian surface. He wrote this piece to combine all patriotic feelings of all Vanukuians. Later people started to add lyrics fitting to the piece, using the song for their sport teams, political parties and more.
