22nd April 2008 saw Rovers host local rivals Swindon Town in the last midweek league match at the Memorial Stadium before it's redevelopment. A headed goal from a corner by Simon Cox was the only difference between the two sides, neither of whom ever looked like scoring many goals. This was the first match played after Rovers became safe from relegation, and despite Paul Trollope's statement that he would give the youngsters in the squad a chance once safety was achieved the lineup was unchanged from the previous game against Gillingham.
