The Vikings entered later on without any resistance at all. The Galician count Gonzalo Sánchez who was of Visigothic descent ended this Viking exploration in 970 when an attack was launched with a very powerful army which wiped the Vikings in a bloody battle where Gunderedo was captured, later executed along with his followers. It was a consequence of the Vikings and a brutal response to them for being a large threat to the Spanish principalities then the Moors.
