abstract	Utprand Dagober's Son was a Namdalen mercenary hired by the Empire of Videssos to fight against the Yezda, arriving in Videssos just before the campaign in the Westlands that ended in the Battle of Maragha . He participated in the battle, surviving and fighting his way out of the defeat. He arrived in Khliat before the Romans did and took all the horses in the city with him. He fought with Thorisin Gavras against the Sphrantzai, and remained loyal to the Empire even after Drax rebelled and claimed the westlands. His forces were part of the army sent by Thorisin to defeat Drax, but most of Utprand's soldiers (including Soteric, brother of Helvis) deserted him at the Battle of the Scamandros and he was killed in the fighting there. He was uncompromising and quick to anger, standing up for Namdalener religious beliefs even in the High Temple in Videssos the City.
