Amon Darthir was a mountain peak in the Ered Wethrin, south of Dor-lómin. The stream Nen Lalaith that flowed down into Dor-lómin near Húrin's house was fed from a spring that came down from this mountain. Beneath Amon Darthir's peak were a series of secret, difficult and narrow passes that were the only ways through the Ered Wethrin when coming from that direction.

Unterhalb des Amon Darthir entsprang der Fluß Nen Lalaith, der in seinem späteren Verlauf am Haus von Húrin Thalion vorbeifloß. Über den Rücken des Berges führte ein Pass. Wer mutig und waghalsig genug war, konnte hier die Ered Wethrin überpueren und an den Quellen des Glithui nach Beleriand gelangen. Der Pass war die einzige Verbindung zwischen dem Fenn von Serech und dem äußersten Westen, wo Dor-lómin an Nevrast grenzte.
