Pieter Meertens was a Dutch doctor from Sofasi who founded the Britishe Taal Commision in 1902, now known as the Brediẍ Talcommision. An avid language enthousiast and fluent speaker of Dutch, English, German, Mandarin Chinese and the emerging Bredish language, he started to travel in Clymene and record the various instances of the Bredish language in the late 1890s. Pieter Meertens was honored with a statue in Sofasi in 1989. He remains one of the principal historic figures related to the Bredish language.
