- Maximum Overdrive is Stephen King's first and only directorial effort, though dozens of films have been based on King's novels. The film contained black humor elements and a generally camp tone, which contrasts with King's sombre subject matter in books. King himself described the film as a "moron movie" and stated his intention to never direct again soon after.

Get outta here! Get-- No, no, don't do it! Don't do it! Don't do it! (NC screams as the killer begins repeatedly stabbing him.) Why are you looking at your hand while stabbing me? (More screams as the killer drops the knife, and lifts his mask to reveal that it's JonTron.) JonTron: (Laughs to himself) That's for reviewing Foodfight. NC: (To himself) What the hell was that? (The film's title comes up.) NC: Yes.
- The movie opens with a shot of Earth surrounded by green fog and states that on June 19, 1987, apocalyptic mayhem ensues when a strange radiation from a closely passing rogue comet, Rhea-M, causes all manner of mechanical devices and electrical appliances across the planet Earth to become sentient, self-aware and genocidal for eight days, twenty-nine minutes, and twenty three seconds.
