Ranticus (also known as Ranticus the Invincible) preceded Chalize, a dragon hatchling that was raised by Patton Burgess, as an artifact guardian. He was known as one of the most powerful Dragons in his time. He was one of the 20 Lost Dragons, the only dragons who never took shelter in a dragon sanctuary. However, he was killed by Patton Burgess, who did not claim to kill him but instead spread the rumor that he bought the bones from a merchant himself, early in the 1900's. His complete skeleton was put on display at the Lost Mesa Museum of Unnatural History in Arizona. According to Patton Burgess, he was extremely evil.
