- Sisyphus was a female exile who was one of the Merovingian's personal assistants. After the Signature Manipulator was somehow rendered inoperable during a mission inside a Machine base, Flood tasked the player to send the damaged Signature Manipulator over to her. In Greek legend, Sisyphus wa s amale king who was punished for his deceit and wickedness by being compelled to eternally roll a boulder up a hill in Tartarus, part of the underworld. In the mythology Persephone supervised him.
- Sisyphus is likely named after the species of dung beetle (aka scarab) of the same name. Scarabs are known for rolling large balls of feces and other material, similar to the punishment given to the Greek myth character of Sisyphus. In the Japanese version of the game, he is known as Musha Beetle. Musha is Japanese for "warrior", and it's likely also a pun on "mushi" (bug/insect) since the kana reads "むしゃ".
