- The Dark Sun, also known as the Dark Star or Ra's Dark Twin, is a zero-point energy field that is the complete opposite to our Sun.
- Dark Sun is a discontinued Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting featuring the fictional desert world of Athas. The themes of this setting could fit in the Dying Earth subgenre and include survival against the elements, ecological disaster, resource depletion, survival of the fittest, slavery and poverty, and the wide-spread use of psionic abilities. The political setting is similar to ancient Middle East, North Africa or Mesopotamia. Water and metals are extremely scarce. Survival against the elements has made it a harsh exotic world.

- Dark Sun is a Campaign Setting for the second and fourth editions of Dungeons and Dragons. Originally conceived as the default setting for a miniatures based wargame, the setting survived as a regular D&D world even after the minis game failed. There were two editions of Dark Sun, the second advancing the timeline a few years, inserting a bit of hope along with a whole lot of new troubles and detailing a larger portion of the world. After the end of Second Edition D&D, a group of fans kept Dark Sun alive using the Third Edition rules until the advent of an official Fourth Edition version in 2010.
