Zalit has one huge continent that encloses a vast epicontinental ocean and many gigantic lakes. Some of these lakes have formed due to meteorite impacts, others are the remnants of an ocean that once existed between converging tectonic plates. Due to this big variety of enclosed water bassins the climate of the main supercontinent is mitigated and only in some areas far away from the sea an arid continental climate creates big stretches of desert.

Due to this big variety of enclosed water bassins the climate of the main supercontinent is mitigated and only in some areas far away from the sea an arid continental climate creates big stretches of desert. Especially on the many islands of this world life prospers, which in time led to the rise of an intelligent species. The Zalitians, as they call themselves, started out as a seafaring civilization that used fast and agile boats to travel from one destination to another. In a similar fashion to the Greek seafarers who colonized the Mediterranean the Zalitians used the water masses as a "highway" to transport people and goods between their coastal colonies. Today the Zalitians have achieved what many civilization have achieved before them: space travel. Their main philosophy "only by exploring the world you will come to explore and know yourself" has been expanded to the whole universe. Their spaceships have constantly been improved during the last two centuries, which enabled them to contact many other civilizations and establish trade routes to worlds as far away as 500 light years. Zalit is ruled by a political union of states that calls itself the "Supreme Trade Federation" or STF in short. In general it can be said that the federal model fits Zalitian society very well. It has allowed a huge cultural diversity under a common set of few and simple moral principles. Although Zalitians tend to avoid conflicts and prefer economic collaboration to military conflict they have come under attack several times. It is said that they have always displayed a staggering amount of cohesion in hazardous situations.
