The Sandbar is a popular eating and drinking establishment in Plaxton, Caspar. It is located on the west side of Mergansar Avenue, looking south over Foundation Square. The Sandbar is recognized as a historical landmark by the city of Plaxton, and is claimed to be the oldest surviving business in the city. The establishment has changed hands many times, and has been destroyed no less than three times. The original structure (built to standards rather below current building codes) was gutted in a fire. Its replacement fell to a hurricane, which prompted the construction of a much more stalwart structure nicknamed 'the Bunker'. This building lasted until the Imperial invasion of 8 ABY. Though the Sandbar still stood when the armed forces of the Union finally swept the Empire from the city, it was deemed structurally unsound and beyond repair as a result of battle damage. In its current iteration, the Sandbar occupies the lower two floors of a mixed-use tower erected on the original site. Despite the new exterior, considerable effort was made to preserve the look and feel of the previous incarnation, including salvaging the bar, and most of the interior. Despite its neighborhood pub appearance, the Sandbar has seen many famous customers. Dergan Roj was reputed to visit often, and with the advent of the Union it has seen locals rub elbows with politicians, business magnates, scoundrels, holo-stars, and star-farers. The Sandbar's stage has also been the place where many local musical acts have taken their first steps towards stardom, most notably Shenneret Veery's Womprats. It is currently owned and managed by Avalyshaar Laarken, former Presav of the CDU.
