The female emergency services Telephone Operator answered Elsie Howard's call on 23rd June 1976 when she dialled 999 to report Eddie Yeats and Monkey Gibbons for breaking into 11 Coronation Street to sleep there. Just out of Walton Jail, Eddie and Monkey had nowhere to go and had thought the house was empty. Eddie pleaded with Elsie not to involve the police as the pair would be thrown back in jail without a fuss. When the operator asked Elsie which services she would require, she replied forbearingly "A psychiatrist love, I must do", letting the men off the hook.
