  • A Fire kami played by Greg Schram in The Five Moons of Japan. * Pronounced: KEE-tsoo-ney * Named after the multi-tailed fox of Japanese mythology You are the resident historian of Nippon at Gaiden Shrine and the first Fire kami to occur naturally after Amaterasu’s disappearance. You were born 199 years ago from the first bonfire started by the Sun Sprites outside of her cave and your sister Kyubi soon followed. You loved your sister dearly and were a very protective brother to her. Most of your days were spent racing across the Nippon landscape, just living for the sake of living. About 130 years ago, the two of you decided to settle down where the majority of Nippon’s residents had congregated and formed the five Moons. Deciding not to join Red Moon, Kyubi agreed to take part in a dangerous cross-elemental breeding experiment that would have her attempt to bear the child of a Water kami named Koi the Fish. Naturally, you were very uneasy about this. While you were somewhat reassured by the success of the creation of the Moon Sprites, deep down, you were very worried for your sister’s safety. You had every right to be. 5 years later, and 2 months after Kyubi became pregnant, you, Koi, and several other kamis found her writhing on the ground and shrieking in agony, her stomach literally on fire with not smoke but steam gushing out of it until she was completely Faded. On the ground where she had been was, for but a few scant seconds, what looked like a tiny splash of red water that quickly evaporated. No one there spoke it, but you all silently knew that it had been her unborn child. Unlike Koi, who was so devastated by this that he fled for years, you channeled your grief into making sure that no one would ever see the horrific Fading that you saw ever again. It was 2 years later that you started the kami log book, a general guide to Nippon and the things you’d seen in it, both during your travels and the events of its history. You believe that learning history is the only way to prevent its negative repetition, knowing that there are positive ones as well. Admittedly, you still harbor ill feelings towards Koi, who returned about 95 years ago to live amongst his peers, but you try not to show them. You don’t want to admit that part of your restraint comes from the fact that Koi is, after all, a Water kami and you are a Fire kami and would likely stand little chance against him. Despite being a Fire kami, who would be expected to show some natural favoring of Red Moon, you have a secret admiration for Yellow Moon and their philosophies of living life to the fullest. Still, Red Moon’s eye-for-an-eye style of life also has its appealing points…
