The series premiered on October 2, 1996 and ended on May 16, 2008. The show originally starred William Petersen as Det. Jason Rice (1996-1999), Amy Brenneman as Det. (later Lieutenant) Alex O'Grady (1996-2008; the entire series), Eddie Cahill as Det. Nick Boyle (1996-2001), Linus Roache as ADA Michael Cutter (1996-2004), and Tom Hanks as Sgt. Mike Vaga (1996-2005). Like the original Law & Order, Legacies featured a constantly changing cast during its run. Some other long running characters include Mark Harmon as Sgt. Max Winters (1999-2002), Bonnie Sommerville as Det. Clara Rhodes (1997-2000), Jonathan Togo as Det. James Amaro (2000-2004), Joe Spano as Det. Tyson King (2002-2008), Cote de Pablo as Maria Sanchez (1997-1999), and Zoe McLellan as ADA Mary Sinfield (2004-2008). The series ended its run on NBC on May 16, 2008, concluding 12 seasons and 282 episodes. It is the only Law & Order in which the cast changed frequently. Linus Roache later reprise the role of Michael Cutter as a regular in the last three seasons of the original Law & Order.
