The 1976 United States presidential election was a contest in which incumbent Nationalist President Clyde Dawley was defeated by Democratic Governor Adam Eisler of Pennsylvania. The election brought a Democrat back to the White House for the first time since Thomas Sullivan, twenty years prior. Eisler also became the first Jewish President in the history of the United States, and entered office as the first Democrat since the 1910's to serve as President while the Democrats also controlled both houses of Congress.
