Gul Malyn Ocett was a female Cardassian military officer who commanded a Galor-class starship in 2369. Her need to solve a four-billion-year-old genetic mystery for an unlimited power source brought her to planet Loren III, along with the USS Enterprise-D and the Klingon vessel IKS Maht-H’a. After an agreement was reached between the three vessels she beamed over to the Enterprise to discuss the puzzle. During the meeting she attempted to deny having a piece of the puzzle on her ship, and was in fact examining the planet for colonization. Captain Jean-Luc Picard called her bluff and discovered that all three races had a piece of the puzzle. Agreeing to cooperate for scientific purposes, Ocett handed over her piece of the puzzle.

  • Gul Malyn Ocett was a female Cardassian in command of Galor-class warship CDS Bralek in the year 2369. A rarity in the military of the Cardassian Union, the female Ocett chose to join the military after learning that she was unable to conceive children. With family being the highest ideal of the Cardassian people, Ocett knew that it was unlikely that she would ever find a permanent mate, and saw a military career as a way to travel and do things few Cardassian women ever did. In 2345, while serving as a Dalin in command of the scoutship Kevalu, Ocett discovered the gelatinous lifeform that eventually became known as Odo while patrolling the Denorios Belt in the Bajoran sector. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves) By 2369, Ocett had been promoted to the rank of Gul. The same year, Ocett sought out what she believed to be a source of unlimited power whose location was hidden in the DNA of various Alpha Quadrant species. (TNG episode: "The Chase") During the Dominion War, Ocett became a member of Corat Damar's resistance movement. She was the only resistance leader who survived when the cells were betrayed by Gul Revok. Following the Dominion's destruction of Lakarian City, her influence was largely responsible for Cardassian forces turning on the Dominion. After the war, Ocett aligned herself with the Directorate, a political group hoping to restore Cardassia to its former glory. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time) She had experience with archaeology, exobiology, and navigation. Ocett was considered to be treacherous. (CCG set: ST, card: "Ocett")

Once the Enterprise crew discovered where the last piece was, the Rahm-Izad system, Ocett betrayed the other two by attacking them. The Enterprise crew, expecting betrayal had given her a fake system and had prepared for the attack. They then proceeded to the Vilmoran system, which was the actual location of the final piece. Finally, figuring out that she had been tricked Ocett turned around and intercepted the Enterprise. She then beamed down to Vilmor II with a guard and attempted to take the final sample. However, her plan was stopped when a group of Romulans, that had shadowed the three races’ efforts, appeared. Ocett then threatened to destroy the rock face instead of allowing the Romulans to get it. This led to a standoff between the Cardassians, Romulans, and the Klingon captain Nu’Daq. While this was going on Picard and his chief medical officer, Beverley Crusher, were secretly finishing the puzzle. To Ocett’s surprise, the puzzle said that all races had been created from one race. She was greatly disgusted at being related to a Klingon, and disappointed that there hadn’t been what she was looking for.
