  • Stottlemire was a professor Indiana Jones met while teaching at London University. In 1925, when Stottlemire was preparing for an excavation at a hillfort in Herefordshire Beacon, he spoke with Jones about his plans and was interested in the newly arrived teacher joining him. Eager for fieldwork, Jones was interested but when he brought the opportunity up with Archaeology department head Joanna Campbell, she advised that Stottlemire would take credit for his work. Instead, she invited Jones to her dig in Whithorn, Scotland where she and her daughter, Deirdre, were investigating facts behind the legend of Merlin.
