Selected 39th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft, Godin played parts of the 1977-78 and 1978-79 seasons with the Capitals. He played in 27 games and scored 3 goals and 6 assists. The Quebec Nordiques also chose him 65th overall in the 1977 WHA Amateur Draft.
