The away goals rule is a rule used in football during a two-legged fixture. It is used if, at the end of the second match, the scores remain level. If this is the case, the team who has scored more goals away from home will be recognized as the winner of the tie. This rule was implemented by UEFA in 1965 and has since spread to all other regions of FIFA.
