- Die Shadow People nehmen die Gestalten von anderen Wesen an. Sie können deren Gedanken lesen und so lernen die Wesen perfekt zu immitieren. Dabei nehmen sie sogar die kleinsten Ticks und Gewohnheiten war und machen diese nach. Die Shadow People werden von den Shedagen erschaffen um der Besatzung von Raumschiffen zu dienen. Dafür werden ihnen empathische Kräfte gegeben. Diese sollen ihnen helfen die Bedürfnisse der Shedagen zu erkennen. Um die Bedürfnisse korrekt wahrzunehmen müssen sie zu den anderen Wesen werden und zwar zu allen Wesen in deren Umfeld. Somit lesen sie die Gedanken aller Wesen, mit denen sie in Kontakt kommen und immitieren diese. Sie bekommen deren Gestalt, Persönlichkeit, Gedanken und Erinnerungen und werden zu den Wesen. Ohne andere Wesen hören sie auf zu existieren. Das eigentliche Aussehen der Shadow People ist nicht bekannt. Jedoch haben sie, wenn sie wütend sind, mitunter rote Augen, vermutlich sind diese etwas was von ihrer ursprünglichen Form übrig geblieben ist. Eines Tages stürzen einige Shedagen mit ihrem Raumschiff auf der Erde ab und lassen sich dort nieder, bleiben aber unter sich. Auf dem Raumschiff ist auch einer der Shadow People. Diese Schattenperson kümmert sich um die Shedagen bis die Shedagen schließlich nach und nach sterben. Sie sterben alle glücklich, dafür sorgt die Schattenperson. Jedoch wird die Schattenperson immer schwächer umso mehr Shedagen sterben. Als der letzte Shedagen stirbt hört auch die Schattenperson auf zu existieren. Sie hat niemanden mehr zum dienen. Als Clydes, Ranis und Lukes Klasse viele Jahre später in der Nähe des abgestürzten Raumschiffes auftaucht erwacht die Schattenperson durch die Ankunft der Klasse wieder zum Leben. Erst durch deren Eintreffen ist sie sich ihrer Existenz bewusst. Allerdings hat sie so lange nicht mehr existiert, dass sie selber nicht mehr weiß wer sie ist und sie glaubt einer der Schüler zu sein. Sie beobachtet die Schüler und versucht ihren Platz in der Gruppe zu finden. Jedoch erkennt sie später, dass sie nicht wirklich dazu gehört. Sie weiß nun wer sie ist und möchte der Gruppe dienen und sie glücklich machen. Darum will sie die Klasse daran hindern wegzufahren. Sie weiß wenn diese wegfährt hört sie möglicherweise komplett auf zu existieren. Sarah Jane Smith erklärt ihr jedoch, dass sie gehen müssen. Sie sagt der Schattenperson, dass diese sie imitieren soll, damit sie sie besser versteht. Die Schattenperson nimmt Sarah Janes Gestalt an und erkennt, dass Sarah Jane alles für Luke und die anderen tun würde um diese zu schützen. Sarah Jane erklärt ihr, dass die Entscheidungen die die Menschen machen, zu den Wesen machen die sie sind. Die Schattenperson konnte jedoch nie ihre eigenen Enscheidungen treffen. Sie nahm immer nur die Wesenzüge derjenigen an die sie immitierte. Sie soll versuchen nun sie selbst zu sein, auch wenn das heißt, dass sie aufhört zu existieren. Daher lässt sie die Klasse ziehen und opfert sich damit selbst, denn sobald die Klasse weg ist hört die Schattenperson auf zu existieren. Zum Abschied winkt die Schattenperson Sarah Jane noch in Sarah Janes Gestalt nach. Sie hat sich jedoch verändert und ihre Bedrohlichkeit, die Sarah Jane bei dem ersten Treffen mit ihr empfunden hat, verloren. Danach verschwindet die Schattenperson für immer. Most accounts of shadow people describe them as black humanoid silhouettes with no discernible mouths, noses, eyes, or any expression whatsoever, though purported witnesses have also described child-sized humanoids or shapeless masses. Some reports also include glowing red eyes. Generally, they are described as lacking mass, though their specific nature varies from a two-dimensional shadow to a vaporous or distorted three-dimensional form. Their movement is often described as being very quick and disjointed; they may first move slowly, as if they were passing through a heavy liquid, and then rapidly "hop" to another part of a witness' surroundings. Some witnesses describe this movement as though the shadow entities they have seen "danced" from one wall to the next, or as moving around the room "as if they were on a specific track". Some accounts differ from the above and instead describe a completely black creature with red eyes, a cloak, and a gentleman's hat. This variation has become known as "The Hat Man".
