Edward James Gardiner (11 October 1845 - 15 February 1908) was an architect, surveyor, volunteer officer and local politician. Born in Bloomsbury, he was the only son of William James Gardiner, a surveyor, of Great Russell Street and Worcester Park, in 1869 he married Laura Statham at St. George's Church, Bloomsbury. He was an officer in the 1st Middlesex Engineers, a unit of the Volunteer Force, he was granted the honorary rank of lieutenant-colonel in March 1886.

Born in Bloomsbury, he was the only son of William James Gardiner, a surveyor, of Great Russell Street and Worcester Park, in 1869 he married Laura Statham at St. George's Church, Bloomsbury. He was an officer in the 1st Middlesex Engineers, a unit of the Volunteer Force, he was granted the honorary rank of lieutenant-colonel in March 1886. A member of the St Giles District Board of Works, he was chairman of the Works Committee in 1897. He represented the District Board on the Metropolitan Board of Works from 1888 until its abolition in 1889. The first election to the London County Council, the successor to the Metropolitan Board, was held in January 1889. Gardiner stood as a candidate as a "Ratepayers and Liberal" candidate for the Finsbury, Holborn Electoral Division. He came fifth out of six candidates and was not elected.
