The film is based on the life of supercentenarian Emma Morano, who was 117 at the time of this movie's filming, and who was (is) the oldest living person. The film stars Sofia Coppola as the titular Emma Morano whose life is narrated (or sung) throughout numerous musical numbers. The ensemble cast includes Gary Oldman as Morano's husband Giovanni Martinuzzi, Robert de Niro as her dad Giovanni Morano, Blake Lively as Giovanni's spouse Matilde Morano (née Bresciani), and Francesca Neri as Angela Morano, Emma's sister.
