Trap-chain is a children's game that appears in Might and Magic: The Shadowsmith. It was common among the people in the western mountains, particularly the Silent Falls, and involved setting a trap for a small animal, with the trap connected to the trapper through a long series of intermediary constructions. While primarily a source of entertainment, the game also had some practical applications, since the mountain terrain discouraged open pursuit of prey.

While primarily a source of entertainment, the game also had some practical applications, since the mountain terrain discouraged open pursuit of prey. Trap-chain competitions were very popular, with points awarded for the length of the chain, as well as the original nature of the connecting stages. Hitch had won acclaim for some twelve- and fourteen-link constructions in his early youth. When he was traveling through the Aulmad, Hitch used the trap-chain principle to lure a group of flaymen into a facestretcher camp, managing to free Jassad Attqua and escape while the bitter enemies fought each other. While the exact workings of this trap isn't described, it involved a few handful of acorns in a pair of crimped-up leaves, which rolled to one side and threw a couple rattles he had constructed from two gourds and some pebbles, into the group of flaymen. It also included a frayed, almost worn-through vine, and a small, black-furred animal gnawing through a sketchy cage of bark.
