Vela(VRRF124) was born on March 15, 2009 in a group called the Rascals. Her mother was Blondie and hier father was Grus. Her litter-mates were her three brothers, VRRM127, Crux(VRRM123) and Izar(VRRM125) and her two sisters Lyra(VRRF128) and Ara(VRRF126). Vela and her brothers and sisters were looked after by the whole group. Rascals was a relatively small group and the birth of Vela and her siblings helped to increase their numbers. Blondie was sadly Last Seen after she disappeared, most likely predated, in June 2009. Vela was only three months old, so her aunt Islay became the dominant female but was soon predated in September. Vela's older half-sister, Sancerre took dominance beside Grus. Vela and her siblings survived well into the next months, but in November 2009, when Vela was eight

The rest of the litter survived to adulthood and started helping out around the mob. Her sister Lyra got pregnant and gave birth to a litter of four pups in September 2010. Vela was old enough to help babysit and care for the pups. In December 2010 Sancerre became pregnant and became aggressive towards her subordinate sisters. Rioja was the oldest and immediately evicted, followed by Lyra, Ara and Vela, who was just over a year old. Rioja, Vela and Lyra left the group and were Last Seen in December 2010.
