Freegle is a UK organisation that aims to reduce landfill by encouraging people to give things away instead of throwing them in the bin. Freegle was formed on 11 September 2009 after many Freecycle groups in the UK decided to break away from the US parent organisation following disagreements on how Freecycle groups in the UK should operate, and the dismissal of long-term UK moderators, who had been speaking out, by The Freecycle Network. As of 14th February 2010, there were 223 Freegle groups with an aggregate of 1,001,641 members in the UK.
