Farmer's magic vegetables were a magical plot item used in the Smurfs comic book story "Salad Smurfs" that turned whoever ate them into anthropomorphic vegetables. They were created when Chef Smurf mixed more than the required amount of Papa Smurf's fungicide and fertilizer formulas into Farmer's watering can, desperate to have new fresh vegetables grown to feed the hungry Smurfs before they became violent with him. The result was that the vegetables had grown huge, but slowly one by one the Smurfs who ate the vegetables would be turned into vegetables themselves, with the last one being Papa Smurf as he was partially turned into a cauliflower. When Chef and Farmer attempted to restore the Smurfs turned into vegetables by spraying the same fungicide-fertilizer mixture onto them, Papa Smurf discovered that sarsaparilla can also change the Smurfs back to normal with just one bite. At the story's end, Farmer and Chef were changed into vegetables when they accidentally ingested a large pumpkin as they crash-landed into it, but Papa Smurf refused to change them back immediately, instead choosing to have them stay as vegetables for a while to teach them a lesson.
