It was taught by Commander Zarsh. It had seminar and practicum components, and security and tactical problems used the fictional Mercaptan race. Circa 2358, Cadet Tasha Yar and Commander Darryl Adin took Advanced Security Techniques, the latter taking it as a refresher course to learn the new techniques. Yar was first in the class while Adin was only second, despite his experience as a Chief of Security, as he didn't want to take up the cadets' time and wasn't as good at essay-writing.
