Windred was the mother of Sayna, the mother-in-law of Luke the Warrior, and the grandmother of Martin the Warrior. After Luke sailed off to battle Vilu Daskar and the Sea Rogues, young Martin was left in the care of Windred. One evening, while out collecting firewood, the pair were surrounded by Badrang the Tyrant and his forces. They were shackled together into a line of slaves, where they were forced to march for two seasons to Fort Marshank. Windred died during this journey from hunger, thirst, and abuse.
