According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) end of 2006 estimate, the population of Karnei Shomron is 6,300. The chief rabbi of Karnei Shomron is Rabbi Yitzhak Halevi. Herzl Ben-Ari is the head of the Karnei Shomron Local Council. Karnei Shomron is now actually made up of a group of several previously independent Israeli settlements that were united in 1991: * Karnei Shomron - established in 1977 and now includes about 450 families, * Ginot Shomron - established in 1984 and now includes about 850 families, * Neve Menachem - established in 1991 and now includes about 220 families, as well as newer neighbourhoods called Alonei Shilo (1999, 25 families and a large girls midrasha), Mitzpe Tzvaim, and Ramat Gil'ad.
