The Special Unit squadron was made up of three flights; the first flight was comprised of equal numbers of TIE starfighters and TIE/rc starfighters. They were deployed to gather intelligence for the assault wing using the recon craft's specialized sensors and long-range communications packages. The other two flights of the squadron were made up of Meller & Dax MT/191 drop-ships used for the transport of ground troops during combined assaults. While not used for combat duty, the drop ships served as cargo vessels and shuttles.
