The 2008 Sharpie 500 was a Sprint Cup Series event held at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 23, 2008. Kyle Busch led 415 consecutive laps but it wasn't enough to hold off the infamous bump-and-run, as Carl Edwards literally drove through to win his third race in the previous four events. Busch clearly resented the move and a post-race on-track confrontation erupted between the two drivers. A massive crash halfway through the race took out a few Chasers, leaving Kasey Kahne on the out and Clint Bowyer back inside the top twelve. Only two races remained prior to the Chase cutoff.
