  • Edna Guthrie (née Wesley; 2 January 1876 - 29 June 1987) was a verified American supercentenarian. Born in Coshocton, Ohio, as Edna Wesley, she and her family moved to Norton County, Kansas, in 1878. Her parents were John and Mary Wesley. She had five siblings in total. She married businessman Gadi C. Guthrie on her 25th birthday in 1901. The couple had three daughters. Gadi died in 1918. The now widowed Edna started working as a city clerk in Norton. She retired approximately 25 years later. She moved to a nursing home when she was 87 years old. Her 101st birthday report revealed that she had lost sight in one of her eyes and used a walker. She enjoyed watching television, reading books and making jigsaw puzzles. On the occasion of her 111th birthday, she stated that if she had known she would live this long, she would've waited twenty more years before coming to the retirement center Andbe Home. She was described as an easygoing person who was rarely sick during her life. Her secrets to a long life was to eat a lot of meat and vegetables, never worry and avoiding cigarettes and alcohol. She was not fond of taking her medicines (pills). She used a wheelchair in 1986. She died in her sleep on 29 June 1987, at the age of 111 years, 178 days. Her sister Gertrude Heaton also lived an extremely long life, dying at the age of 109 in 1994. Two of her brothers were in their 90s when they died. Two of her sisters were in their 80s when they died. At the time of her death, two of her daughters were still alive.
