Active Camouflage, also known as Cloaking and Invisibility, is an armor enhancement that allows the user to use an advanced form of cloaking and vanish into their environment. The enhancement is seemingly run by two different A.I.: Tex and Epsilon-Tex.

- The term Active Camouflage (often shortened to Active Camo and sometimes invis or av-cam) refers to various light-bending technologies, both UNSC and Covenant. Most commonly, the term is applied to Forerunner-developed cloaking equipment that is generally stored in small, deliberately fragile containers.
- Active camouflage or adaptive camouflage is camouflage that adapts, often rapidly, to the surroundings of an object such as an animal or military vehicle. In theory, active camouflage could provide perfect concealment from visual detection. Active camouflage is used in several groups of animals, including reptiles on land, and cephalopod molluscs and flatfish in the sea. Animals achieve active camouflage both by color change and (among marine animals) by counterillumination.
- Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will include a equipment piece called optical camouflage. Optical camouflage is an advanced technology used by The Ghosts and Bodark. It cloaks the individual, rendering them nearly invisible. The camouflage is available on uniforms or in a unique cloak. The optical camouflage disengages with sudden movements, such as firing a weapon. The system is voice-activated, and is formed by metamaterials. They continued to use it on a mission to Colombia and Yemen commanded by Andrew Ross.

In theory, active camouflage could provide perfect concealment from visual detection. Active camouflage is used in several groups of animals, including reptiles on land, and cephalopod molluscs and flatfish in the sea. Animals achieve active camouflage both by color change and (among marine animals) by counterillumination. Military counterillumination camouflage was first investigated during World War II for marine use. More recent research has aimed to achieve crypsis by using cameras to sense the visible background, and by controlling panels or coatings that can vary their appearance.

The Ghosts used an optical "cloak" on a mission to Chelyabinsk province, Russia. Four members of the Ghost team also used optical camouflage during Operation "Take Down Overlord". Cedric Ferguson's team also had working optical camouflage during their missions to Bolivia, Africa, Georgia, and Russia. They also faced Bodark troopers with their own cloaks. They continued to use it on a mission to Colombia and Yemen commanded by Andrew Ross.
