Hypercane Alberto was a short-lived, but catastrophic and historic hypercane that impacted parts of the East Coast of the United States. The first named storm, hurricane and major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season, Alberto formed out of a non-tropical area of low pressure to the southeast of Bermuda on February 23, and rapidly organized into a tropical storm early on February 24. Alberto quickly strengthened into a hurricane later that day, the first in recorded history for Feburary. Afterwards, explosive intensification took over as the cyclone moved to the northwest, and Alberto grew into a monster Category 8 on February 26, and a Hypercane by the next day.
