Defense is one of the four primary skills in the Heroes of Might and Magic IV collective card game, the other three being Melee Attack, Ranged Attack, and Movement. When enemy units attack, they roll a die and add it to their Ranged or Melee attack skill (depending on how they're attacking). If this score is equal to or higher than the unit's Defense score, the unit is killed in combat.
